First Impressions of the city

My first impression of the city of Hong Kong is well, hard to describe~ From the gigantic modern airport I took the express train to the city, then taxi to the hotel~ On my way I’ve seen buildings and places that made me go “ooh I remember that place!”, I also have seen buildings and places that made me go “wow, that didn’t look like that before!” and of course there are buildings and places that made me go “where the beep does that come from?? it just pop out of nowhere??” It’s just weird to match what’s right in front of your eyes to the half blurry memories of the past~ I gotta said the city is a lot prettier and cleaner and even greener than I remembered.

Two other impressions were formed after shopping for the first two days: one, people are really polite here~ the salesperson in nearly every place is just polite as hell, you can pretty much hear thank you and apology and hi every 20 second, on the side with a big smile too~ We all know they probably don’t mean it because they are salesperson, and it’s definitely part of their training, but compared that to the salesperson in New York and also what I remembered about Hong Kong in the past, this change of attitude in treating customers is amazing and well deserved praises~ Really, I never been shopping happier in any other places because of this (well, among many other reasons which I will mention in another post)~

Another impression – There’s a lot more foreign people than I ever imagine!!! I was standing outside of a non-major subway station to wait for my friends – during those 30 mins, I’ve seen at least 20-23 white people walked pass by!! It’s not even anywhere near the tourists magnet area like Central or Causeway Bay! in those places, well they are just walking among the chinese, they doesn’t even look like they are tourists or anything, they blend right-in! I was truly surprised, i didn’t expect that, and I certainly didn’t expect to find many white cuties here, so it’s a pleasant surprise!
