Hong Kong Impressions – Shopping Heaven and other thoughts
Hong Kong really is a shopping heaven, where else in the world can you shop til 2am in the morning?? With the exception of Virgin Megastore I can’t think of anything that opens past midnight here in NY – and they said this is the city that never sleeps, yeah right~
In Hong Kong not only you can shop that late, the experience is also superb there, the salesperson are all increiblly polite and nice, of course it’s all unnaturally trained, but hey I don’t care if it’s fake or not, I gotta be treated like King~ I am happy to spend money there! unlike here where most places you spend money and got crappy services.
And of course the main attraction to shop in Hong Kong is the price – cheap cheap cheap!! Everything is cheaper there when you convert the price back to American dollars~ Not to mention there’s no sales tax there, so i go nuts every time I calculate the actual price in USD~ really can u believe this? 5 bucks for an entire meal with salad, soup, dessert and a drink?? (and it’s delicious too!)
Speaking of food – fast food culture is so advance in Hong Kong that the fast food there is comparable to regular restaurants, the decor are amazing (I heard they renovate the places every year or so to keep it fresh!), the menu is just like regular restaurant offering, but with fast food price!!!!
Other observations about Hong Kong – the escalator is super fast there! damn, i mean i step on it and then i’ll be on another floor already! and they have many type of escalator too, have you seen one that is in spiral shape? or one so long that take you at least 6 floors away from the ground?
Hong Kong is clean, much cleaner than I remembered, i guess after the SARS that cause lives of hundreds of people, they learn their lesson. You can almost said they went to another extreme, there’s people cleaning the peak tram every ride, there’s people cleaning the buttons of the elevators every two hours, the only not so healthy thing i see is smoking, I guess I am used to Mayor Bloomberg’s no smoking everywhere in NY policy that smoking sections in restaurants bugs me a lot, but i believe even that is no gonna last long cos i heard a new law will be enact soon to ban smoking across all restaurants.
Hong Kong is crowded, REALLY CROWDED. There’s so much people walking on the street that it’s scary! it’s Time Sq here in NY on weekend – except it’s everywhere in Hong Kong and every minute of the day and every day of the week~ Surprisingly though, going from places to places is actually faster than let’s say in NY – cos Hong Kong’s transportation option is a lot more than NY and it’s more frequently as well.
