A Pilgrimage to the midtown Apple Store

19 May 2006 478 views 2 Comments

As promised, here’s my pilgrimage to the grand opening of midtown Apple Store:

I went straight to the Apple store after work at around 5:45pm and let me tell you the line is already incredible! it twist and turn and circled around the block of GM building, then the line spill to the next block, circled around it and the line continue to the next block north of 60th St! I waited for 3 hours until 8:45pm before I was actually inside the store! You might think the wait would be unbearable, but it is not, it was so much fun!!!!! First of all the crowd have a lot of cuties, so that’s always a plus! Second of all people are friendly, we all talk to each other, I guess because we all come for the same reason – our love for Apple – that’s why we are so connected! The whole time there’s these people walking pass us and they ask us what is going on, why are we waiting in line for? we answered “the new Apple Store.” Some just said “gotya!”, some were confused, some said it’s just a computer store! There are some actually pull their car over and ask us about it, it’s so funny. The best part was when one guy who scorned at us saying we are blocking the road, he whispered “Apple Freaks!” Whole lot of us hear that and we all scream and boo at him, it was just so much fun!!!! The whole time while we were waiting, Apple employees keep on coming up to us and ask how are we feeling, are we tired, and thank you for waiting and for coming to see them. And when you walk through the entrance either going in or coming out, there’s a group of Apple employees lining up there the whole time, cheering and applauding and high-fiving all the visitors, it was just amazing that we are treated so good!!!!!! It was just so much fun!!!!

The Store is amazing!!!!! The glass cube is the prettiest store entrance, the glass staircase and the round elevator are both totally awesome! inside the store is a huge floor!!!! and I thought the London Store was big, (they might still be bigger, since they have two floors, but in terms of grand style, this store totally rocks!) I was playing around the new black Macbook, when touching and seeing it up close is so much sexier than pictures I saw from the web! The geniuses and creatives were everywhere in the store, there’s just so many of them, and they are so cute and adorable too!! Two of them came up to me and chat, we chatted alot about their job and their Apple personal experience and some other things, it was cool! I know it’s part of their job, but still, chatting up with two cuties, that’s something rarely happen to me!!! That makes me very happy!

I didn’t get to see Steve Jobs, he was in the store but in the back office and didn’t come out the entire time when I was there. However I did see a lot of celebrities! First was when I was waiting in line, I saw Saturday Night Live’s cast member Maya Rudolph and Will Forte came out of the store with two Ipod Hi-Fi and some other stuff, then soon later Kevin Bacon came out of there with his friends – they all dressed in black and leather, total rock band look! When I was in the store while playing with the Macbook Pro, SNL’s Fred Armisen was also playing with the Macbook Pro and asking the staff a lot of question, I overheard some of their conversation and sounded like he would like to upgrade his Powerbook. Right before I leave I also spotted SNL’s Chris Parnell and Bill Hader! I guess all the SNL cast member must be taping a show or rehearsing today that’s why they are here since they are just a couple blocks over. I have half my mind thinking of asking them where is Andy Samberg or Seth Meyers – I think they are cute~ hehe~

There are of course over 2,500 people before me, so I didn’t get the free t-shirt, and I tried twice on their hourly Macbook giveaway and didn’t get anything either. But that’s quite okay! I was in a state of Apple-high already, not to mention a little starstruck with so many familiar faces from TV!!
