I always love a good mashup google map, and this one is about my favorite ‘hood Williamsburg and the horror that might happen soon. Highrises is coming to the waterfront, there isn’t much anyone can do about it, but at least they suppose to give us parks and a public accessible waterfront. But this new proposal to put 28 towers in the middle of Williamsburg is just ridiculous!! Not to mention look at the map! the area affected will be including the site of everyone’s favorite Thai restaurant in Willy – Sea!! and also Chai, Rice Republic, the fame bar/artspace/performance stage Galapagos and Northsix. It also includes the site of the Williamsburg “mall” which is a space with bookstore, record store, and internet cafe. This Quadraid proposal is basically a proposal to kill off the row of eatery and nightlife, and culture of Williamsburg!! The projects by the river such as the Edge or the Northside Piers, they might block the view, but at least they are build on empty or abandoned factory grounds, they are not gonna totally destroy the local established businesses (although some might be affected in a negative way.), but this one does, many people’s favorite places in Willy will be close down, it’s a death proposal of the hipster community.
