Colbert explains AT&T saga
By now I think a lot of people are aware that Cingular will change it name to AT&T. It completed the soap opera saga started back in the 80s when the Federal government Justice department used the anti-trust law to break up the AT&T monopoly into many regional Baby Bells and a much smaller AT&T. Then during the cellular era beginning in the late 90s, AT&T give birth to AT&T wireless, while Two of the Baby Bells give birth to a grand child Cingular. Now in 2007, the mother, the Baby Bells, and their grand sons are all back together as one! (except Verizon and one or two smaller players) It is the most interesting and confusing corporate family tree ever. Engadget had a guide that detailed the chain of events up til last year. But nothing is more clearer (and of course funnier) after Steven Colbert take up the issue and explain it to the mass!
