Blog Project Production Diary II
This time we are going to talk about the header banner of the blog. The header is probably the first thing people see in a blog. It is probably one of the most crucial element artistically speaking (not counting the quality of your writing of course!) It’s where your blog title and description appears. It’s where you establish an identity to your readers. It is often the most customizable element in a blog since people can put image on it as the header. People put tons of creativity into this banner (since they can use photoshop, sky is the limit!)
My current design has this huge banner using New York City skyline and a bright vivid light blue sky as the backdrop for the title of the blog. The original banner since last summer was already large in size,
but the last layout change for version 2.0 of the blog from 2 columns to 3 columns two weeks ago bring the size to a whopping 960x400ish pixels. If someone still using the 800×600 monitor, that means the banner is all they see and they can’t even see the whole of it! Luckily nowadays the standard size, well the most used size is 1024×768. Still that takes up a lot of screen just for the banner!! I admit I was being too considered to others when it come to that particular banner design. What can I say? my Powerbook’s screen resolution is 1280×854, while my iMac is a gigantic 1920×1200 pixels!!!! But anyway, i decided I’ll pay more attention to the screen size and it will reflects in this coming design.
So enough talks about the old design! what about the new one that I will be creating? well in consistence with the darker tone, the new banner is gonna be a whole lot darker than the vivid blue sky I used to have (slimmer as well! I promised!) It’s going to be less image oriented since I already used an image as the background. In itself is still an image file though, just it’s not a picture of some sort. It is going to be a bit more interactive though, because my current design isn’t even clickable (back to the homepage) like many blogs out there and I would like to change that. Again, I am not gonna reveal the design, but I can tell you that the color and the texture is inspired by one of the recurring “character” in a top 20 popular TV drama~ care to take a guess? :p
