Albany – enemy of New York City
So Mayor Bloomberg’s Congestion Pricing plan is pretty much dead unless there’s a miracle. Thank you Albany for sitting on their asses and do nothing at all, as always~ Now $500 millions is gone and now we’ll almost sure that we’ll have to pay for $3 per subway ride or $116 monthly metrocard~ we can also kiss the rest of the second avenue subway (aside from the 3 stops in UES) goodbye~ Those people up in Albany it’s not like they take subway to work everyday (unlike 95% of NewYorkers), it’s not like they care if we stuck in gridlock forever or the subway is beyond repair, as long as we hang over billions of tax money every year to subsidize upstate economy~ I agree that Congestion Pricing is not a universally well like idea yet. But it was the same in Europe before it started and now it seems not only working but gain majority support in the cities that have the system in place. It take guts to put in some unpopular measures that ultimately is good for the public (and it’s not like Mayor’s plan doesn’t have support, even doctors come out and support the plan~) The Mayor’s speech summed up nicely:
“Want to see some guts? Look at the City Council here in New York City. Think about what they’ve done: The smoking ban — talk about things that are politically difficult. The solid waste management plan. How’d you like to have the courage to vote for something that makes a lot of people say “Not in my backyard.” What about trans-fats? That wasn’t an easy lift. People are still complaining. But we’re getting it done. 421a, the Williamsburg-Greenpoint rezoning – all of those things took courage. “
I am so pissoff at this~ Why is the fate of the city is in the hands of people who don’t even live here??
