Dream: The Doctor
Hi! my name is Harry, I am an intern in a hospital. Yes, just like JD when he first started on Scrubs. And no, I don’t have a mentor that tortures me. I am taking care of the most awesome patient ever. She’s a middle age woman. She’s all fun, joking a lot, always a smile on her face, a great personality. She makes my job doesn’t seems like a job anymore.
One day while I was joking around with her, a handsome young doctor passed by, pulled me aside and started talking to me, you are doing a great job there sport! I have never seem anyone who can cheer up a last stage cancer patient that much. His word reminded me that my patient will not last long in this world – I almost forgot about that. Sadness overwhelmed me but I managed to utter out something like “thank you, I am just doing what I can do for her.”
I have a crush on another intern ever since I started working here. He’s tall and his skin is ghostly white, you can almost said he’s so fitting of working in a hospital. He has those thick frame glasses and he doesn’t talk much. We are close, we see each other everyday, we have long hours working in the same place. Sometimes we take our break together. He is so close and yet so far away. I can never really read him, never really know what his true feeling is. I am always the one to seek him out and talk first, i am always the one who suggested where to eat when we are on our break. Sometimes I wonder if I am not the proactive one, will he ever do the same thing and hang with me?
The nurse station is the best place to find out the latest in the hospital. News travel fast. This morning nurse Roberts was buzzing about someone is going to have a lunch date today. I was curious and asked who is it? She said, “oh my, I thought you knew! it’s your pal!” He didn’t tell me about it at all. I was crushed. I couldn’t concentrated the whole morning. My favorite patient asked, “dear, what’s the matter? what’s wrong?” I told her the whole thing. She said, “You should have let him know what you feel, and it’s not too late to tell him that.”
Lunch time. On a busy street. I walked around nervously. I was hoping to catch him before he go on his date. After some time, I finally spotted him walking toward my direction. I am pretty sure that he’s heading toward the lunch place that we always go to. Great! he’s having his lunch date at “our” place! As he walk closer, I suddenly realize I have to act in a way not too obvious and might need to pretend I am so how running into him instead of waiting for him purposely. So I turned around, pretend to walk slowly. He’s going to catch up to me and I can act all surprised. I keep on walking. A few minutes passed. He should have spotted me by now or walking right next to me! what’s going on? I turned around and he’s nowhere to be found. I was confused and upset, going around the busy street trying to look for him.
“Hey! what are you doing here?” someone tapped my shoulder. I looked back and to my surprise, it’s the handsome doctor that talked to me the other day. “Hey, it’s me, Dr. Samson. I talked to you the other day, you are Harry right?” Obviously I wasn’t going to tell him what I was doing. He asked me if I want to grab a bite together. I, of course not gonna turn that down under this circumstance. And I was glad someone else notice me. We have a fun time together, talking, laughing. We talked about our patients because he also have a patient similar to mine – except that he’s actually treating her. It’s evident that we have some kind of connection and I can tell from his eyes that he’s interested in me. While we were talking, my favorite patient pop up as an imaginary tiny person on my shoulder and said “Oh he’s dreamy! isn’t it ironic that you end up having a lunch date instead?” Indeed.
……………………..
Wow, a dream without sci-fi or any other fantasy element! Not to mention it’s drama, with heartache and romance! I never saw Dr. Samson before, I wonder if he’s real~
