iPhone shortcomings

9 July 2007 147 views No Comment

I was playing with the iPhone again on Saturday when I was with John and Phil. And I said it before and I am saying it now that the more you play with it, the more you are going to want it~ so I have to put up this list to make myself not wanting it so much~ this list of shortcomings that the iPhone has is not fixable through software update because they are hardware based:

1) it’s EDGE not 3G network – it’s not a huge issue for me because for my phone right now, I am on GPRS, which is even slower than EDGE~ so it’s actually a step up for my current usage. But knowing that there will be a 3G version pretty soon, it definitely make me think twice.

2) 8GB storage – one important purpose of the iPhone is to have a device to replace two device in your pocket. With only 8GB, that’s not helping me much. No one need to carry 80GB of music around them, but I WANT to~ so I am constantly thinking if they are going to release a newer version of iPod, i would rather want that instead of a nano-equivalent iPhone.

3) weak Bluetooth, no send receive file, no stereo headset – Seriously, didn’t Apple know that it’s one of a holy grail to get rid of the headphone wire with Bluetooth. Now that the Bluetooth is finally built-in, and you are telling me that there’s no support of stereo headset to listen to music??? and sending and receiving files via Bluetooth is really useful~ I do it all the time sending pictures that I took using the phone to my desktop or a ringtone from my phone to my brother’s phone. Having a cripple Bluetooth totally sucks.

4) 2MP camera but no flash or no zoom or other setting – I am spoiled, while the majority of people carries phone that has blurry 0. something megapixel camera phones. I have been carrying a phone that has 2 MP camera for the last 2 years~ so to buy a newer phone that has the same megapixels~ I am not too happy about that, not to mention my current phone (Sony Ericsson W800) has a crazy bright light and nice settings that can take some decent pictures. To “downgrade” the experience a little bit, well, a minor issue i guess, but annoying nevertheless.
