Restaurant Week Summer 07

26 July 2007 263 views 2 Comments

It’s Restaurant Week again, this time I went for both dinner and lunch.

For dinner, I went to Mercer Kitchen. I always wanted to go to Mercer Kitchen because it’s on the same block as Apple Soho on Prince Street. I passed by there numerous time and always wanted to check it out because there’s a constant stream of limos lining up outside on Mercer Street. The restaurant has two floors, we were sat at the basement level right beneath the sidewalk of Prince Street. It was pretty cool because it’s not really transparent, so all we can see are footprint walking up there. It’s kind of cute, like the Marauder’s Map in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

I had the steamed shrimp salad with avocado, mushroom and tomato in a champagne vinaigrette for appetizer. It’s a good mix of ingredients that come together nicely. For entree I had the roast chicken with french beans, carrots and mashed potatoes. For roast chicken, it’s tasty, the dark meat was soft, unfortunately I don’t like white meat that much, so the other part of it I didn’t like as much.

For dessert, that’s always the best part of dinner for me~ I got the warm valrhona chocolate cake with cocoa bean brittle and vanilla ice cream. It’s much like the warm chocolate souffle that I like in LAN or many other places. The texture of the cake is better than many other places, so I rated it the best chocolate dessert i had so far~ :) Oh, I had a cocktail for the evening too. It’s White Chocolate Martini. They use real Godiva! It was milky and chocolatey~ so so tasty~ well, except that there was too much Vodka for me to handle for the night, so after dinner and some time in the Apple Store with iPhone, It really got me and I was feeling dizzy and sick and had to sit down for a while before I head home.

For lunch, I went to Megu Midtown, a high class Japanese restaurant across from UN Plaza, inside the Trump World Tower. Hands down it’s the most amazing Japanese food I have!!! Even though I didn’t go to a lot of high class expensive Japanese restaurants like Nobu or other places, but over the years I went to many many many mid range nice ones in East Village and all over the city. So to say that it’s the best from me, it is something!

I had the Yuzu Caeser Salad – I don’t think I have Caeser Salad in a Japanese place before, but it’s very good. Then the Akadashi soup is like no other miso soup that i ever tasted! The soup itself is slightly darker, reddish-brown and sweet in taste. The tofu is so smooth that it is like jello! It melts in my mouth.

Then I have the Saikyo Miso King Salmon with Green Sauce – it’s the best salmon I ever had!! It’s incredibly soft and smooth! Even though it’s cooked, but it’s so soft that it feels like sashimi than a cooked salmon! I have no idea how they can make the fish like that!!!

Dessert is a layered cake made with paper-thin crepes with green tea paste in between and all over. It’s HEAVENLY! seriously, words fail to describe the sensation! Boy, and I thought the dessert I had in Mercer Kitchen was good~ but man I have no idea! Highly highly recommended!
