We all know independent bookstores all over the city are closing left and right over the past year. Even chain bookstore giant Barnes & Nobles is affected, as I mentioned earlier that their Astor Place location will be close down at the end of the year. (The space will become a gym – that really speaks about how people care more about body than the mind~) Today I am horrified to find out that another Barnes & Nobles location – 6th Ave and 20th Street Chelsea will also be closing!!!!!!!! Aside from the main branch at Union Sq and the one on 5th Ave in midtown near where I work, these two locations are where I usually hang out! What am I gonna do now?? It’s like money and greed is systematically wipe out the ecosystem and natural habitant of Harry! Over the last couple years we already seen the wave of disappearance of record stores, independent bookstores, and music venue/performance space from the city, now even Barnes & Nobles can’t sustain its locations!! Maybe in a few more years, anything that is remotely cultural will be gone from the street of Manhattan, and all that’s left are condos, banks, and gyms!
