New iPods

I was able to check out the new iPods over the weekend. The new iPod nano is way cooler in person than photograph! People were trashing at the design when the spy photo leaked out weeks ago, but when you see it yourself in person, you know the design is as good as any previous nanos. It is really paper-thin and yet with a crystal clear screen that you would not mind if watching video on it~ I can never use a nano because I prefer a higher capacity player that can hold everything but I am constantly amazed by the design of nano. And with the ability to play video as well, I think Nano is slowly replacing the “regular” iPod~

As for the “regular” iPod, now named “classic” – the most amazing thing is its 160GB gigantic capacity. Other than that, the changes in appearance isn’t that much, granted it got a new “clothes” on, but it’s essentially the same. Nano and Classic both shared a new redesign UI. They are not only flashier with album arts and pictures but also provide more information on the screen. It’s a step up from the previous iPods, but if you already own an iPhone, you are not gonna be impressed by these. As for the newest addition, the iPod Touch – they don’t have them in the Apple Store yet, but it’s just an iPhone without the phone~ It’s too bad it tops out at 16GB only~ I am the type of person who need to carry my entire music library with me, so for now only the “regular iPods” can do that. If only Apple can make the capacity of the iPod Classic with iPod Touch, I’ll be the first to get it even if I already have an iPhone, but for now, I am not buying anything – and I don’t need to, my 5.5 generation regular iPod has 80 GB and my music library (not counting video) is only 61GB. I still have rooms to grow for a while. I think Classic and Touch will eventually merge together, either when the flash memory capacity grow to the hard drive level, or when the energy consumption of hard drive go way down to the point that it can works with the touch screen without having an hour of battery life. I hope it will happen in a year or so, until then, my iPhone/ 5.5 generation iPod combo is still gonna be my daily lifestyle.
