Regina Spektor Concert

17 October 2007 287 views No Comment

Given the relative comfort and ease of my last concert (KT Tunstall), I would have thought the concert of Regina Spektor is even easier since I thought KT is a bigger name than Regina given that KT is all over iTunes and Starbucks, and her songs are on from Devil Wears Prada to Ugly Betty. But I was wrong, the crowd is much larger for Regina’s concert last night. The line was wrapped around the whole block. The concert was packed! Luckily our tickets were for the mezzanine with tiny seats, otherwise if we were standing on the floor packed with people, I would have been so annoyed. But anyway, just like any other concert, it was a still a long wait until the actual show began.

I was pretty much exhausted my entertainment options on my iPhone while we waited! (It was too noisy to watch the TV shows or listen to music on the phone) I end up showing off all my pictures on the phone, showing off the iPopcorn and iBeer clips on YouTube, use the weather widget to play the game we called “What’s the temperature in….?”, then we were almost doing the guess stock price game and the straight up math game with the calculator – luckily Regina finally show up to save us from that awful game.

Regina is adorable with her slight forgotten lyrics or the wrong keys on the piano. But overall the show was amazing. She seriously can make any sound – her vocal range is just crazy wide. It is pretty much a one-person show similar to Imogen Heap. Regina played the piano the entire time sans one song where she played the guitar. The stage was very simple with a few lights and fiber optic grass on the floor surrounding the piano. I underestimated the stage though because when Regina sang the last song, the stage became absolutely beautiful with stars all over the stage. (effect of spotlight on a giant disco ball on the floor) It was one of the longest concert I’ve been to, she sang 25 songs all together. She was just amazing! I found a page with the recording of the entire concert, so check it out.
