Norby
It’s amazing how “real” Pleo feels! I know it’s just a robot with a plastic skin, but man he’s adorable! I dunno if it’s the little noise he makes or he little gesture like waging the tail and giving a sad face, or when you hold him and he fall asleep in your arms. It just make you believe he is real. It makes you feel so proud when you teach him how to shake hands or balance with two feet. My favorite moment was when he sings, you just can’t help but have a smile on your face.
But of course it’s not perfect. It is far from perfect. The battery life is pretty bad in any gadgets’ standard, it last about an hour only! with 3 hours of charge! But then again i doubt any other gadgets in the consumers market has that many moving parts and sensors. The fact that you have to recharge the battery for him takes you back to the reality that he is still just a machine. (The expensive Aibo can charge itself when the battery runs low! now that’s what I called a real life form!)
In any case, the developer still puts out update of the OS software for Pleo, so hopefully more functionalities will appear real soon. In the mean time, Norby will have fun one hour per day in my apt.
(Guess where’s the name Norby comes from?)
