Twilight
When I first heard of “Twilight”, all I know was that it’s another young adult series that got greenlight into a movie starring Cedric from Harry Potter. I didn’t think too much about it because the description was just pretty much another vampire movie. Months passed and then the first trailer and poster start popping up online, the buzz gets louder. The trailer doesn’t show anything we haven’t seen in other movies before, but somehow this movie just got my attention – obviously having Cedric – Robert Pattinson as the lead helps a lot, but I dunno, there’s a certain tone that Twilight has that makes it a little different.
Then while browsing in bookstores as always, I noticed the displays of the Twilight series get more prominent as time goes by. The cover art, with two hands holding a bright red apple definitely upped my desire. (You know, me and Apple~ :p ) So eventually, I bought the book and start reading it. Just a few pages I am already hooked. Not by the supernatural elements but how the writer Stephenie Meyer framed this essentially a vampire story into a love story. The slowly developing crush between Bella and Edward is just something everyone can identified with or experienced. The internal struggle, the self-doubting, the disappointment of not seeing your crush, etc. They are all so familiar. Meyer really captured the emotions of Bella that anyone can identified with. And I believe every reader falls in love with Edward through Bellas’ eyes as well.
I think I can definitely finish reading all 3 books and the 4th one that will be coming out in August, before the movie hits theater this December. This Winter is gonna be awesome with both Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and Twilight hitting the theater within weeks!

I started reading this too last night, and I’m just over 300 pages in.
I find it really exasperating that Bella lets Edward treat her like he does. He gives her nothing but cryptic non-answers and then gets mad at her when she doesn’t do exactly what he wants, and she just sits there taking it like some idiot girl who cares about a boy more than her own self-respect. Essentially she’s staying with him for being “pretty” and “mysterious”, and we have enough vapid teenage girls in the world who already ascribe to this sentiment that we don’t need Stephenie Meyer encouraging them.
He also lashes out at her for his own faults. If he’s really SO dangerous and cares about her SO much, he’s being incredibly selfish by imposing himself on her all the time, yet when he gets tempted to eat her or whatever it is, somehow it’s her fault for not leaving him alone? I don’t THINK so, buddy.
I also have a problem with the fact that he is drawn to her unpredictability. Of COURSE he finds her unpredictable. She’s the only person he can’t read. He’s never had to PREDICT anybody’s actions. So it’s not that she’s especially unique (because she’s not), it’s just that he doesn’t have the usual early warning system telling him what to expect.
BLAH so it annoys me. Maybe I’m too old for the book. BUT, considering I read over 300 pages in one sitting and have so many feelings about it, it’s obviously doing something right.
My favorite part is that it’s in the third person so I spend a lot of time pretending I’m gazing into Cedric Diggory’s eyes and admiring Cedric Diggory’s beautiful muscles and kissing Cedric Diggory’s…. hm…. I’m definitely reading the rest of the series.
I mean “first person”.
wow, u r way ahead of me~ I got distracted by 4 eps of House and Doctor Who that day, so I think I only read up to 152 only.
I agree the first person point of view rocks when we know what Edward looks like in the movie!! that’s the reason i am so into Meyer’s every word about Bella’s crush on Edward~ I can totally put myself in Bella’s shoes~
