Weakling’s journey to Apple

After 18 months continuous usage (I hardly EVER shut it off), my iMac finally experiencing problems and need to take a trip to see a genius. Unlike my powerbook, the iMac is a 24″ screen giant monster, so a trip to the Apple store for me is a logistic nightmare. Without a car, my choices of Apple store is limited to the accessibility of public transit. The 5th Ave store is immediately eliminated because of the closest E,V train access are at least a few blocks away, not to mention the transferring between G & E,V is a long walk underground. Soho store also got eliminated because to get there I’ll need besides G & L but also the 6 train as well. That leaves West 14th St store at Meatpacking district as my only choice.

Still, to walk as little as possible, I swap the G train with the B61 bus, which is more direct transfer (without a long walk up and down underground) to the L that can bring me all the way to West 14th and 8Ave, one block away from Apple. After figuring out the route, I carried the machine in the apartment a few time to see if I can manage to walk with it, and I thought i did okay and I set out on my journey. My apartment to the bus stop is merely a long block away, but i underestimated the weight of my computer within a big box, (it’s 24.7 lbs by itself not counting the box~) by the time I get close to the bus stop I am already exhausted !! Then I saw the B61 run passed by!! I have to chase after the bus before it leaves the stop!!

I finally got on the bus, but I was more than exhausted! I was feeling very light-headed, feeling I could pass out any minute! I have to get off the moving vehicle before it’s too late, so I got off in a few stops. Still feeling totally sick, I throw up and wait on the sidewalk not sure what to do. I highly doubt I can continue my route as planned, not to mention I take a detour since I got off the bus~~I realize a change of plan to continue would require car service or a taxi, but of course at the border between Greenpoint and Williamsburg in the morning, there is absolutely nothing. There’s a car service on my street, but I don’t have the number and my roommate wasn’t answering the phone. Eventually I gather myself and head to a bus stop to get back to my street. Got a car service to go to the Apple Store. The rest of the journey was smooth as hell that made me wonder why the hell did I go through the trouble if I could have just hire a car service from the beginning~~

Anyway, the genius in the store told me it’s the video card’s problem, they ordered one for me and said I can get my computer back in 3 days. They however did not take the box, which isn’t a big deal since I can carry a giant empty box without getting myself sick~~ lol~ (yeah, quite pathetic!) Funny thing is this is the original package of my iMac, so it’s like I am a walking commercial for Apple. (which as you know, I love to be!) Apparently carrying a giant iMac box would make you the center of attention everywhere! I was loving every bit of it! All eyes are on me (well technically, on the box, for which I was carrying~)! I got all the oohs and awws and people come talking to me and cute guys and gals and couples and old people all admiring my iMac box. The best experience was when I was in Williamsburg waiting for a bus to get home, a car passed by with two tiny little kids in the backseat~ they spotted me and knocked on the window all excited and happy, pointing at the iMac box to their parents! The kids was all jumpy and full of joy and wave at me!!! I waved back, it was totally adorable!!!!! So in conclusion, I highly recommend everyone to walk around with a giant EMPTY iMac box~ :p
