iPhone Game Impressions
iPhone has the potential to be an awesome gaming platform, but so far most of the games available in the App store are generic cellphone games that got ported to the iPhone. There are some that take advantage of the unique hardware of iPhone like the multi-touch screen and the accelerometer to create a unique gameplay. Only a few that takes advantage of the graphic capability to create handheld console level games. From the few that I tried, I am going to ignore the generic games and focus on the fun one that fall onto those two categories that make them unique iPhone games.
Super Monkey Ball: There was so much expectation for this game from the moment that it was shown on stage that there’s no way it can live up the hype. Indeed it didn’t – the most problematic and pretty much deadly is you can’t really control the damn monkey ball no matter how much you try! somehow the accelerometer really doesn’t coordinate what’s going on in the game. After two weeks of trying and I still couldn’t get past level 7. I gave up since then. Only waiting for an update that fixed the control issue like Sega promised. While many apps and games received updates and fixes after a month, SMB’s update is still nowhere to be found. I am still waiting…
Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D: This is what SMB should have been, a fun game! This game is fun and take good use of the accelerometer for control without the issues SMB got. The graphic didn’t exactly the top notch, but compare it to the regular cell phone game, this is pretty awesome. downside- not that many levels compared to SMB, but hey, at least I can reach them all here until in SMB where I can’t get past level 7.
Tap Tap Revenge: A guitar hero type of rhythm game, but on an iPhone! Addictive and fun! best of it is it got downloadable contents and two players mode where two people can tap on the same iphone like two idiots~ if only it can play with the music of your own in your iPhone and it would be perfect! And did I mention it’s FREE!
Dizzy Bee: it’s the cutest little bee that you can find, and he is trying to rescue his fruity friends~ LOL~ It’s a simple game where you guide the bee by tilting and turning your iPhone through obstacles and some germ looking bad guys while rescuing and protecting the fruits. It’s so much fun!! It got a free version and even the paid version is only 3 bucks!
Labyrinth: It’s the same concept with Dizzy Bee, except you control a metal ball just like a real small toy you can in the store. Try to avoid the holes and that’s all it is, a simple and yet addictive game.
There are other ones that looks good like Enigmo, GTS World Racing, Trism, Aqua Forest, and De Blob. If I ever buy them I’ll definitely let you know what I feel about them!
