Street Transformer

This is an excellent clip highlighting the Department of Transportation did within less than 2 years’ time.  I know the clip is 10 mins long, but I think it’s worth it to see how DoT under the leadership of Janette Sadik-Khan changed some of the streets of NYC from deathtrap for pedestrian to open space for relaxation and enjoyment of city life.  Even though New York is such a fast-paced city, most public projects are slow as a turtle, many projects are so slow that they remain in drawing boards in years~ Just look at the hole at Ground Zero and you would know what I am talking about~  Granted it’s not a fair comparison to what the DoT does, but still, I think DoT of the last two years really showed results of an efficient department. For example, they transformed the streets of Broadway midtown section, Madison Square Park, Meatpacking District, 34th Street, 9th Ave, all in a matter of months!  I can’t wait for them to get their hands on my favorite Astor Place and Soho!
