Welcome to version 4.0 of Harry Podder and the Big Apple!  The biggest change of course is the address! that it moved from Blogger to my own domain with WordPress! I was tired of the restrictions and lack of regular expected features in Blogger, despite it’s flexibilities and ease of use.  After some secret testing during the summer, I was increasingly fond of the features of the WordPress platform.  Hence the switch.

Starting new is always difficult, so I did not design the theme myself like version 3.0.  Instead I used the Arthemia 2 theme and modify it to my liking.  There’s no fancy features just yet since I would like to get familiar with the platform first.  However, the header art is rotatable.  I designed 4 headers based on version 3.0′s four different themes.  You can refresh the page to see each of them.

There’s still much to do, the migration left me with a job of retagging every single post and reorganizing some of the categories.  They are still on going, and hopefully I can finish doing it in a few months.  In addition, the thumbnail of each post on the index page need to be added manually, so far I only did the most recent ones.  I haven’t decided if I want to put it in for all the post yet.

10/12/2008 UPDATE: I used Flash for rotating the header images now, which mean it is now automatically rotated without requiring you to keep hitting refresh to see the different headers.  However, it does means you need a Flash plugin for your browser if you don’t already have one.  I know that sucks, but the transition effects is really nice, so using Flash is just a trade off.  But if anyone know how to achieve a similar effect using AJAX or more open standard kind of way, feel free to let me know! and BTW, iPhone/iPod Touch Users, I have the mobile iPhone friendly version theme activated which you should see just using my regular URL, it will display the iPhone mobile theme for you nicely without requiring any Flash.
