Harry Potter Movie Marathon
Yesterday I went to a Harry Potter movies marathon at the legendary Ziegfeld Theatre in midtown. In the words of Ron Weasley, it’s bloody brilliant and yet completely mental! Yeah, 15 hours in a theater, it’s not for everyone~ Lack of proper meals for a whole day, cram in a seat with not much leg room, it’s even worse than if you are flying coach on a cross-pacific flight! But in the end, it’s all worth it~~ It’s not every day that they all showing on the big screen in one single day! Not that I don’t already have all the Harry Potter movies on DVD and on iTunes, it’s just a different experience. Plus to see all of them in one seating, just let the entire story flows. It’s amazing! You started to judge the movies and the plots as a whole instead of vaguely remember what happened two years ago or the first movie or if this character was around in the second movie. Things are a lot more clearly when you view them all together. Like I always thought the second movie was the weakest of them all, but after watching them all in a row, I actually appreciated it more because it makes so much sense with what will happen with Ginny in Book 6 or the upcoming 6th movie in retrospective. (just look at the subtle looks Ginny has on Harry starting from the second movie~)
And then you can compare the style of the different directors. It becomes even more apparent that Alfonso Cuaron’s third movie has the most style. But the most fantastic joy of watching all of them together is that you can literally watch all the characters/actors grow up right in front of your eyes! It’s amazing. They were all so adorable in the first movie with cute little faces with baby fat. The different looks on all of them between the first and the latest movie are striking. But talking about looking different, look at Matthew Lewis’ pictures? he looks nothing like the nerdy Neville we know at all in real life!
