New Moon’s director

It is now official that Chris Weitz will be directing the sequel to Twilight – New Moon.  There were problems with Catherine Hardwicke’s direction in Twilight, but overall it is still acceptable to me because I did enjoy the movie even if some of the dialogue sounded cheesy, but then again it was part of the appeal of the source material – it was essentially a diary of a teenage girl who was falling in love with a vampire! What else did you expect?

Anyway, I am thrill but also worry about having Chris to take over.  I loved About A Boy, it’s one of my favorite movie, and in general I like the movie Golden Compass as well, but then again that movie left so much more behind – from the shocking and exciting ending to many of the plots from the original book.  Golden Compass did demonstrate that Chris can handle special effects – the Polar Bear fight scene was the best scene in the movie.  He will need that skill in New Moon, without spoiling any plots, there will be much much more special effects needed for New Moon than in Twilight!  But I hope the final product will be more of About A Boy than Golden Compass, because essentially, New Moon is still a continuation of a teenage girl’s love story with a vampire boy, it is still not a special effect driven action movie no matter how the marketing department will definitely sell it like that~

Here is a letter from Chris to the fans of Twilight: (obtained from S. Meyer’s website)
