Inkheart
Seems like just about every movie Brendan Fraser did involve CGI creatures. Inkheart is no exception. In fact there are quite a few of them in the film. Adapted from a German young adult novel of the same name by Cornelia Funke, Inkheart is about a bookbinder who has the unfortunate talent of bring things in the book to life by reading out loud. Unaware of his talent at first, he brought out villains in the book Inkheart to the world and terrible things happened…
I like Brendan Fraser, he’s just one of those big goofy guy fighting imaginary creatures all the time. And I run into him once on Broadway in Soho, as a rule whoever I get to run into in real life their likiability increases in my book! And one special note is that the original author of the book based the character Mo on Brendan Fraser when she first wrote the book, so it’s nice to see him actually being casted into the role that was based on himself! The movie also stars our Queen Helen Mirren, the always intense and unrecognizable Paul Bettany (seriously, I can never recognize him in any movie for some reason! If not because of his wife Jennifer Connelly’s guest appearance, I wouldn’t have know Dustfinger is Paul Bettany!) and Andy Serkis (the original Gollum). I can’t help but keep on wanting Brendan’s character Mo to read out loud LOTR to bring out Gollum or Frodo whenever Andy is on the screen!!!
The idea of Inkheart is rather cool, characters or things can be brought to real life by reading out loud, the tradeoff is something must go into the book to take its place. You obviously need to know all the books they reference to to truly enjoy it, but luckily they choose the most famous literature like Wizard of Oz to Peter Pan. I wish they could bring out more famous characters and situations from the books, but i guess there might be a copyright issue to prevent them to do so. It would have been cool to see how all the different characters from different books to interact. Crossover is always fun, especially when you combine that with the fish out of the water element.
Inkheart is for booklovers, a story that celebrate many other literature works. Even though the general audience doesn’t seems to embrace it (doing rather poorly in the box office~), I like it and will start reading the novel itself~
