Betty Update

I finally caught up with all the episodes of Ugly Betty. I really like the direction of this season where YETI and the roommate situation brought Betty closer with Mark and Amanda. Aside from the ruthless teasing of Betty’s fashion sense, what I like even more is the occasional help from Mark and Amanda to Betty. With their relationships getting closer, those occasional help occurred more often and they showed a more human side of Mark and Amanda which really rounded out their characters. I also like how they showed Mark’s ambition in the magazine world, he deserved more than playing just Wilhelmina’s flying monkey~

The last episode “Kissed Off” featured the return of Betty’s neighbor cutie Jesse (Val Emmich) to close that storyline. He’s most likely not gonna be back given how they portrait him in the end. It’s too bad, he’s so cute~ Although I was really identified with Betty, because I definitely know how it feels like to be on a date with someone who only talk about himself – and my experience wasn’t even with someone as cute as Jesse! Another element of Betty’s storyline in the episode was how she need to move away from her dream (with her own apartment in the city) because of her family needs her back at home. I was pretty much speechless when I was watching that because I can’t believe how parallel my situation is to her situation. Not that I need to move back with my family yet, but the sense of family obligation and how it can crush your own dream is certainly real. I just hope I don’t need to give up my own apartment just like Betty.

BTW, I have to mention Ugly Betty’s brilliant pick of music lately – the closing song La Ritournelle (Mr. Dan’s Magic Wand Mix) by Sebastien Tellier for the episode “Dress with Success” was breathtaking. It was used in Gossip Girl season 1 before but the usage of the song here on Ugly Betty was way more effective. I went straight to iTunes to buy it after watching that scene!
