New York City Comic Con 2009
I was never really aware of the New York City Comic Con until this year, maybe because I didn’t really buy any comic at all until Buffy and Angel continued their story on comic, or the fact that there’s more TV/movies presented in NYCC this year than ever before. So this weekend I went to Comic Con and what an experience it was! You got all kind of people dressing up in all kind of characters, you got your celebrity sighting (Milo Ventimiglia was in the house! He was interviewed in the news booth and I snap a picture!), you got your sneak peek at upcoming tv/movies/games/books/comics/toys~ It was very fun and exciting even if you dunno a thing about comic – seriously, aside from Buffy and Angel, I know nothing about the rest of the comic books. When I was walking in the aisles of the comic books, I felt so out of place, and also – so not geeky enough!!!! Luckily there’s a lot more than just comic in Comic Con. (including a life size R2D2 rolling right by me in high speed with a tiny little kid in young skywalker costume! cute!!)
The majority of my time was actually spent on waiting on line to get into the panel and screenings. And I was only able to get into two of them with all that waiting around. The problem was I didn’t estimate enough time for the waiting! I thought 30 min or 1 hour would have been enough, but u actually need to wait for like 2+ hours to get into these high profile panels and screenings! I went to the one for Joss Whedon’s new show Dollhouse and the one for the show Fringe. The Dollhouse panel has the creator of the show Joss and the very handsome star of the show Tahmoh Penikett best known as Helo from Battlestar Galactica. While the Fringe panel has the producer of the show (Jeff Pinkner – I was hoping for JJ Abrams to show up!), and the entire cast including the lovely and just married Anna Torv and the cute as ever Joshua Jackson!
Joss was light-hearted and funny as always, not only did he talk about Dollhouse, but he was nice enough to talk about Buffy/Angel, Dr. Horrible, and Firefly! I was super-excited to know that he’s considering more Dr. Horrible! while animated version of Buffy/Angel might be on the horizon as well if he gets around to it~ As for Tahmoh, I never really watched Battlestar Galactica except for an episode on a flight, so I really don’t know him. But given how charming and handsome he is, that’s one more reason to be looking forward to Dollhouse!
As for the Fringe panel, because of the entire cast was there, it’s a bit more chaotic, but even more lively. We got to find out that Joshua Jackson is a boxer guy and he is also a bit of a nerd – he kept a flow chart on a wall in his dressing room to keep track of what’s going on in the show~ The lovely Anna Torv even agreed to wear a silly hat for one of the audience for “scientific purposes” (it was a mind reading hat – a science project!) lol~
During my time waiting in line, I met this awesome girl named Ry. She’s totally cool because she watched all the shows that I watch, and that she knows all these info about the shows and also about Comic Con – she’s the one who told me Chuck Bass from Gossip Girl and Jin from Lost was here!!!! (I can’t believe I missed Chuck Bass!!!!) Anyway, with her around it makes the time waiting much easier, so thanks Ry!!
Go check out her blog and site!
Update: Ry got some awesome pictures up on Flickr, since she got the shot of Chuck Bass that I wasn’t even able to meet because I didn’t know he was attending, I am borrowing her pictures here~ I hope she don’t mind~
I know I didn’t take enough good pictures, so I search around Flickr and brought you these:
