Watchmen

watchmenposterfinalEven though I did watch the first chapter of the motion comic on iTunes before I go to the movies.  I still didn’t know what to expect from the Watchmen since I didn’t read the original graphic novel.  I was completely satisfied and amazed upon coming out of the theater.  It made X-Men and most superheroes movies seem juvenile!  There are just too many elements of the film that you can give praise for: the depth of the plot, the complexities of the character and how the story explore the flaws in superheroes and human in general, the artistic expression of the cinematography, how it is faithful to the original material that some scenes you can literally believed you are reading the graphic novel on screen.  It is just one of those movie that make you think afterward, just like the Dark Knight.

Most of the credits should go to the original graphic novel, there is a reason that the Watchmen was listed in the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to the present! But the film makers also deserve the credit to make a faithful adaptation and improved on the novel by separately the story within story of the Tales of the Black Freighter segments out of the main film.  The casting and the art direction were also very appropriated.  It is one of those movies that you want to go see it a second time – which I am definitely planning to do.
