Odd Japanese restaurant concepts

One of the few complaints I have about my neighborhood and Williamsburg is that there’s very few authentic Japanese food here.  The only ones that I can think of are Bozu and Zenkichi, both in Williamsburg and are targeting the higher end customers.  I never thought the lack of choices situation will change much….until now.  I was walking around in my ‘hood and I found this place – Ichiran Ramen on Manhattan Ave and Green! It’s in the morning so obvious it’s not open, but I read this funny sign outside the shop -

It’s members only noodle shop!!! and it’s for walking distance neighbors only!!!  How strange! I, of course immediately pick up the registration form! I went home and do some research and realize this is actually a famous noodle shop in Japanese, comparable or even better than Ippudo!! This is their first outpost in New York and they choose Greenpoint!? strange choice but hey, it’s works for me!!!! hahahaha~ So I’ll be patiently waiting for their announcement and I can’t wait to try out this members only noodle shop!!!!

While doing research I come across another very strange Japanese restaurant in the neighborhood, it’s called Bonjin – traveling eatery.  As the name suggested, the restaurant is movable and it’s constantly moving from place to place.  It serves contemporary Japanese home cooking. The current or last place (I have yet to head over there to confirm) it was in was at the Korean restaurant Dokebi in Williamsburg.  Before that it has been moving around between Williamsburg and Greenpoint.  I am so intrigue by this!!!! I have been living here for a few years how can I miss something so cool in the ‘hood!! Anyway, I will so get to the bottom of this and hopefully I am not too late to find this mysterious place!!!
