Flex Mussels
I love sea food, so when I heard about this cleverly named restaurant Flex Mussels, which as the name implied, specialize in mussels, I have to go and try it out. Hidden on a residential block of UES. Flex Mussels seems bigger on the inside because the storefront is deep. Decorated with lots of ocean and sea theme paintings, the place has a comfortable feel about it without being too formal.
Now mussels no matter how you put it is not gonna photograph well, especially it’s in a pot. But the taste is indescribable good! They have a total of 23 different way of cooking the mussels!! Along with many other sea food dishes includes lobster roll to clam chowder. This place is a sea food heaven! As a bonus, our waiter is super good looking and sexy with a big smile~ We ordered a delicious crab cake as appetizer, then main entree is san danielle, which is mussels cooked with prosciutto, caramelized onions, white wine, and garlic. Scott had the Skillet which is cooked more traditionally with butter, white wine and herbs. Both are amazing. And even though we thought it’s not gonna fill our stomach before we order, it end being completely able to do that because the portion is quite large actually.
For dessert, the most deliciously named Chocolate Sandcastle is sold out, (I am so going back for that!), so we settled on something not so traditional in a restaurant but yet everyone would be familiar with – donuts! Yes, this is not your cheap ass Dunkin donuts! I forgot how good a real donut can tasted! They have many favorites and we were suppose to pick two which we didn’t know until we ordered, so we asked for four different flavors and our lovely waiter made that happens for us. He’s so nice and dreamy…… anyway, warm and freshly made donuts, who knew donuts can be so amazing.
A word of advise – you need to make reservation!! Flex Mussels is on OpenTable, so it’s easy. Make sure you do it 3 days in advance~~
