iPhone 3GS impression
The biggest feature about the iPhone 3G S is performance. Everything seems to come up instantly in comparison to my first-gen iPhone. 3G network performance though, various from street to street. In some places it doesn’t feel any bit better than the EDGE on my old iPhone. In most cases it’s better, the location apps pick up info and load much faster, so is the map. Games loaded way better in terms of performance, especially the 3D and driving ones.
Real feature-wise, spotlight search and copy-cut-paste are welcoming additions to the usability of the system. I especially like how it is smart enough to copy a paragraph or an entire column section from the webpage and retain the look and pictures of it. Compass is cool and useful when it is combined with Google Map, reorienting the map to the direction you are facing is awesome! now when people arguing with me about directions, I have a machine to back me up that I am right and they are wrong! ha!
Camera was one feature that I was really looking forward to, that extra megapixel and autofocus really help improved the quality, and tap to focus is also a nice touch. Macro pics are also possible now! thank goodness! The ability to shoot video is also a welcoming feature that would be most useful when someone awesome is happening on the street or on the subways of New York!
The feature that I like and used the most for now is voice control. It’s not the voice dialing part but the control music playback part! It’s so much fun! not to mention once I switch to Cantonese in the setting, it really recognize my Chinese songs and artists! I can even give the command in Cantonese! Granted there’s definitely times that it heard me wrong, but in most cases, it works and I have so much fun with it!! (People on the street! I am warning you! stop staring at me when I give command to my phone!!!)
The fact that the phone has now 32GB instead of 8GB make it less of a headache to pick songs to put on the phone. Granted it’s still not enough space for my collection, but the ability to carry 4000 songs with room to spare to put videos is MUCH better than 400 songs!
There are many small touches that I didn’t mention, but one small thing that I would touch on is the “Find My iPhone” feature, it really works! Although the tone that is used to locate the phone is not loud at all, they need to tune it up a bit for it to be really useful for people who has a messy untidy house (luckily that’s not me and this feature probably is not needed for me, it’s good to have though~)
