The Titan’s Curse
As the third book of the Percy Jackson series, the Titan’s Curse kick it up a notch, the story becomes more epic. And as like most of the Greek tales of Heroes, tragedy is right around the corner, we can feel it. There are already deaths in this book and I imagine more will come in the next two. When there’s a war, casualties are unavoidable.
While the first two books slowly reveal glimpses of the many legendary gods and monsters of the Greek mythology. This one unleashed them to readers. Apollo and Aphrodite made their appearance while Artemis is center to the plot. By the end all Twelve Olympians showed their faces, along with finally one of the Titan – Atlas (that giant statue holding the world on his shoulder outside of Rockefeller Center)~
The revelation at the end of the book once again rocked the plot, it makes the reader wonder the implication to the story because the news is huge. but on that note I think the author try to take an easy way out for the big revelation from the last book – the fate of Thalia – if that’s it for her story arc, then what is the point of bringing her back in the first place? I hope she will continue to make appearance in the future and will have a big impact on the plot.
There are also glimpse of the future with Aphrodite and Athena’s conversations with Percy about love and his relationship with Annabeth, and the discussion about a hero’s fatal flaw. Not to mention the re-appearance of Pan (still unseen)~ Overall, if there’s still reservation about where this series is going, this book proves that it will be grand and epic just like Harry Potter.
P.S. This book kind of broke my theory of everything happens during the summer in this series, since this book took place during the winter.
