Thoughts on WWDC Keynote part 1

wwdc-2009-keynoteThe WWDC’09 keynote has plenty to talk about, so much so that I don’t even know where to start~ I guess I can start with their new line-up of notebooks! As always, the new update brings more power and yet cheaper hardwares. With the new Chinese input via trackpad as tablet system, I was tempted to revise my future computer upgrade plan yet again! My plan was to have a new iMac some time next year or so to replace my old iMac. the main reason was for the screen. But this new Chinese input feature is such a big draw for me that i could as well just get the notebook and an external monitor! I mean how are they going to bring that feature to the desktops?? will they release a new keyboard with trackpad on it?? But then again the iMac will always be cheaper than the Macbook Pro (top of the line of course)~ I also don’t have much problem with the SD card slot in place of the Express card slot, but I believe many people will complain about it, especially people who uses it for eSATA. For me my camera uses Sony’s memorystick pro duo, so it doesn’t really benefit me at all.

Then there’s the new OS, Snow Leopard. it’s only $29!!!! I am eager to see how it will benefit my system since my iMac was from 2006 and lack a few hardware requirements for some of SL’s functions such as….. but regardless of that, even if Apple coining it as a refinements rather than new features, there’s still plenty new stuff in the release that makes me want it bad~ Speed enchancement is always welcome, but small touches from Space to Expose to Stacks, to bigger ones like QuickTime all are very attractive to me.

One thing I notice from the Keynote is that Apple synergy again! When Apple see a feature that they like very much, they will expand it and use it across their product lines. This time around I see the following examples:

17″ Macbook Pro’s intergrated long lasting battery – now extend to the rest of the Macbook Pro line-up
Chinese handwriting input system on the iPhone – now being used on the trackpad of all their laptops
iMovie 09′s yellow drag and trimming video clips feature – now on the iPhone 3GS, QuickTime X
iPod Shuffle’s Voiceover technology – now become Voice Control in the iPhone 3GS to control not only voice dialing but also iPod controls.

I wonder what’s next in line to be carry over to other product lines~

iPhone 3GS in the next post…
