July Fourth Activities

5 July 2009 562 views No Comment

My plans for today, Fourth of July was to either go to the Central Park Zoo to visit the snow leopard or head to P.S.1 contemporary center for their new exhibits.  Neither of the plans become a reality.  P.S.1 has the warmup concert going on today, so when I see the lines outside, I already said hell no!  Then on my way to the City, I realize my brand new low-rise jeans is hanging too low, it’s falling down every 2 mins and I didn’t wear a belt today (Because I don’t have a light color belt to match!)  So I was pretty much having a wardrobe malfunction the whole time, trying to get my jeans not fall down the whole time, while walking on fifth ave trying to buy a belt! by the time I was all done, I was too late to go to the zoo because it’s closing in another hour, there’s not enough time!

So I end up switching my plan for the today to visiting bookstores I like, Borders in Columbus Circle, then took a bus down to Chelsea and trying to visit Books of Wonder, unfortunately it’s closed, so I head to B&N instead, then head down to Strand.  Of course my day couldn’t be completed without dropping by the Apple Stores, which I did, to the Fifth Ave one and the Soho one! The whole time I was pretty relaxed and happy, until the end when I was getting tired and loneliness kind of creep in on me.  Free Hug campaign was working in Union Square, giving out free hugs, I felt like I needed one so I went for one! It felt nice to be hugged! :p

Then I took the subway back to Brooklyn.  Once I get out of Bedford station, I have a smile on my face because Williamsburg Walks is going on and a band was playing while a large crowd gathering to watch. The vibe is different than other street performing bands because of the location, it’s not just some group trying to make money out of the tourists or the commuters, it’s part of the Williamsburg Walks event and the crowd was way more enthusiastic, probably because everyone is in the similar age group.  Everyone is having fun! Some even went in and dancing! The band performed MJ’s Billie Jean, a fucky rendition of Happy Birthday To You and our national anthem! It was fun, spontaneous! I loved it! It’s just how Williamsburg rolls!

It totally cheer me up and gave me some needed energy to continue my journey home at the end of the day.  By the time I hit Greenpoint, I passed by the newly opened Bakery on Franklin Street and Oak Street called “Cookie Road.” I ordered the one called “Rocky Road”, it’s chocolate cookie with nuts and marshmallow!  The cookie tasted so good!!!  I am so glad another cute little store joined Franklin Street! I love my ‘hood!

Even though the fireworks moved to the Hudson this year so I won’t be able to see it up close in my conveniently located apartment, but still my day was pretty good~ Anyway Happy fourth everyone!
