My two cents on Eclipse recast
Upon hearing the news regarding Rachelle Lefevre, who plays the evil vampire Victoria in the Twilight series, is being replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard in the third movie, Eclipse. My first reaction is not to believe the official story of a “schedule conflict,” and indeed the next day there are already words of war throwing between the actress and the studio. My two cents is that this is not the first time Summit attempt to recast someone in their now blockbuster franchise!
Once upon a time when Twilight was this tiny little fantasy movie based on a some what popular book but finance by an independent tiny studio, everything is under budget constraint. But when it become a hit, sequels will of course be given enough budget to “up” the production value, the promotion, and everything. in “everything,” I mean everything including people, behind the scene and in front of the camera! First person to go was the director! Chris Weitz replaced Catherine Hardwicke. The official reason was time restrictions, and both sides are sticking with the story. Then there’s this whole controversy with the character Jacob Black where Taylor Lautner who played the character in the first movie was rumored to be replaced by someone else because the character was suppose to go through a major physical change. We didn’t know what exactly happened, either because the intense fans reactions or that Lautner, being so determined to keep his role, physically transformed himself and gained 30 pounds of muscles. He got to keep his role and the controversy die down.
So let’s recap, the character Jacob Black was a minor role in the first movie, then in the second movie he become a major role and the rumor has it that the studio tried to recast the role. Then now in the third movie, where the character Victoria will become the main villain, and now once again we have a recast, except this time it is successful? The official reason of “scheduling conflict” is not gonna stick, because the studio has been trying so hard to replace every elements from the first film.
