Regina Spektor Live At Soho

One of artist performing at my favorite place in the world? of course I would attend! it’s a no-brainer! The only question for attending Regina Spektor’s Live at Soho, Apple Store is just logistic issue like how early I should be there since it’s a Friday and it’s a free limited space event!  Given the recent surge in popularity of her music, such as being one of the main song in (500) Days of Summer, I really wasn’t sure if leaving a few hours early from work would be good enough!  Luckily it was, and I was able to be one of the last to get to sit in those comfy theater seats in the store!

The line started in the back corner of the store and I encountered a few other Regina fans that are extremely friendly and we all started to play all sort of games to pass the time~ (we were more than 3 hours away from showtime~) Two of them are a young chinese couple all the way from DC, while two other are a Gilmore Girls team of a mother and daughter where the mom looks so young it’s unbelievable, then there are 3 very talented art students from FIT! It’s a diverse group but strangely very Asian~ lol~ We played card games, charades for Regina’s songs then later on movies, and a lot of drawings including on our own hands!  We went so crazy that we each wrote letters onto our palms (real palm of our hands, not PDA! lol) that would made up the sign “We ♥ Regina!” It was just so much fun that we kinda become the loudest group in the store, we even scare off a rude line-cutter! I never would have expected how much fun I would have going alone! So thank you for these youngsters! (I feel kinda old cos they are all in college, well, except the mom and daughter pair~)

The concert is of course awesome, Regina is such an adorable singer! So child-like and cute! She sang mostly from the new album, which is pretty great because I already knew the songs very well, and then at the end, two past favorites – Us and Fidelity! I especially like “Us” because it was used so effectively in (500) Days of Summer! Given it’s a free concert but lasted in about an hour or over, It’s pretty much like a regular paid concert but with awesome seats! Apple is so awesome to host this! (even if they did not allow photography during the show, but eventually we will be able to see it when it’s on iTunes!) Now that I know the logistic of going to one of these things I would so go for the next time Live at Soho event!

I didn’t let the fun stop there cos once I get off the L train and back to Brooklyn, I immediately went to the RoofTop Films:Animation Block Party which showcases new independent animated short films!  Some of them are weird, but some are really really fantastic that I like a lot, like the one called Hazed, which is about a factory building come to life and realize what he done to the environment around him and try to make amend, and a very funny one called Horn Dog, which is about a dog that is in love~  It was a great night out~ I haven’t have so much fun on a Friday night for a long while!!
