Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
I don’t have much expectation about the movie, cos from the first movie we know what we are getting into, a film that everything else sucks except the robots. And this time when the trailers started to show up a couple months ago, it didn’t even excite me! So when I go in the theater, I fully expect it sucks, and let’s say it’s even worst than I thought!
No matter how hard Shia LaBeouf tried, he’s still this annoying kid to me in every movie, this time around he got a roommate that’s even more annoying than him!! And why do we need so many human characters anyway? the movie is about Transformers! that’s what people go to the movie for! not to see some stupid human making jokes! The whole parents embarrassed the son first day of college plot is absolutely unnecessary! It’s scenes like that that makes the movie closed to 3 unbearable hours long! There are movies like Harry Potter that 3 hours is just not enough, than there’s transformers, where 3 hours should be just about the robots, not mom having “brownie”!
The biggest horror I have with the movie is that Transformers can transform into a human!!! that is just completely ridiculous! It destroys the whole premise of Transformers! If robots can transform into human and can blend right in, why the heck would they transform into machines in the first place??????? The tie-in comic tried to explains it by saying the transformers pick up the shape of a robotic “Alice” Alice in Wonderland theme park, that is still a stretch because that does not explains the human skin and movement and everything! This just ruin the whole movie for me!!
Then there’s the robot designs for the other newer robots! The twin new Autobots – Mudflap and Skids are completely racial stereotypes! They are robots! not some kids from ghettos! And don’t get me started with the remote control toy monster truck! I mean really? humping like a tiny monkey?! Really? Michael Bay, do u get that it’s a robot? it doesn’t reproduce that way, it doesn’t have a penis! why would it hump?! Then there’s the grand old Transformers they introduced, which turns out to be a Blackbird! The way that they make him sounded like as if he just woke up from a hundred years old sleep, with bread and walking with a crane! Anyone who know a little bit of military history would recognize Blackbird isn’t that old! It was introduced in the 60s and retired at the end of 90s! Don’t they know they have many other choices they can use to depict old machines! If they uses the first gen motor car from Ford, that’s fitting, if they uses a fighter plane from WWII, that’s okay, if they uses tanks from WWI, that’s fine too, or even Ironclad warship from the Civil War era! One last thing, stop making bumblebee acts like a pet! Seriously give the robot some dignity!
The things I like from the movie is not much, namely Prime, who is still awesome, the new motorcycle Autobots, they have very few scenes but they looks like they kick ass! And the Constructicons, massive scale that looks out of this world – if only they can have more personality instead of like a freakin slow moving animal! Here is my suggestion for the next movie, which we know is inevitable – get a new director and writer! Bay is good at blowing things up, really good at it! but that’s the only thing he’s good at!
