Bag Obsession

10 August 2009 304 views No Comment

JackSpadeI have always been a bit obsessive with bags. Dunno why, I just do. Through out the years I always buying all kind of backpacks, shoulder bags, laptop bags because I would get tired of my current one very quickly. I also can’t seems to settle on the style or size either because I keep on trying new ones. I went through a phase with all kind of laptop bags when I first got my Powerbook G4 a few years back and constantly travel around the different coffee shops of the city. I even tried different orientations from landscape to portrait and also backpack style to shoulder bag style! After that when I no longer carry my laptop around, I was settled on getting the extremely tiny shoulder bags, or shall we say camera bags because it’s that small! I guess having to carrying around a laptop around just makes me go for the exact opposite in terms of weight.

This Spring I was obsessed with the tote bag style, which result in a good looking fancy tote bag with lots of internal pockets from Uniqlo and a very simple regular tote bag from Brooklyn Industries. However, my main bag that I carried around for work for the past two years was a black shoulder bag from Brooklyn Industries, it’s so wore out that the velcro doesn’t stick anymore. I have been picky to find a replacement. I went through my usual brands from Brooklyn Industries to Uniqlo to Muji to Diesel to Fossil, and I just didn’t see anything I like. So whenever I am on the street I started to take notice of what bags other guys have, especially the cute, hip ones! And one brand of bags that I have been eyeing as a result is Jack Spade!

Now a little tidbit first, Jack Spade is not a real person, it’s a brand created by Kate and Andy Spade, who are related to the actor David Spade. And Kate as we all know, is responsible for the fame brand of Kate Spade. There seems to be a lot of confusion and people mistaken the brand as a real person and a designer! Anyway, its bags have a minimalist, simple sleek look but made with high quality materials. I knew there it has a store in Soho but I never went in for a look because I know how expensive it is. Last week though when I was on my way to KidRobot to get a gift I passed by the store. I couldn’t help myself but go in for a look finally! To my surprise they were having a sale!! I quickly found one that I like that was half off the price! With opportunity like that, I got my first Jack Spade bag!

Of course that’s not the end of my bag search, I still would like to find another tiny shoulder bag for causal use and also a medium size hand carry bag and also a backpack as well. Yes, I know I am obsessed, but hey, we all have our own little obsessions~
