New Amsterdam Village

13 September 2009 218 views No Comment

Today I went to the New Amsterdam Village at Bowling Green that was set up to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s arrival at what is now the New York Harbor.  There are tons of events setup to celebrate through out this NY400 Week, the New Amsterdam Village is one of them.  The village is consist of traditional Dutch canal houses, a windmill, a modern greenhouse.  It showcases Dutch crafts from wooden shoes to blue painting to glass blowing.  Not to mention Dutch flowers and traditional foods including cheese, beer, herring and tiny pancakes!  It sounded like a lot, but it’s actually not big at all, similar to how I feel about the real city of Amsterdam.  Still it’s pretty cool to sample all the traditional crafts and food of Holland.  They even have a band from Amsterdam performing some classics as well.  It does makes me want to visit Amsterdam again.  The last time when I was there it left me a really good impression.  Hopefully sometimes next year I would be able to do more traveling and Amsterdam will definitely be on my list again.
