Tweetie 2 for iPhone
Last time I talked about Twitter Apps, I used Tweetie on the desktop while Twitterrific 2 for the iPhone. This week I switched to Tweetie 2 for the iPhone once it came out! There’s no free version on the iPhone, unlike the desktop, so why would I want to pay 3 bucks for a Twitter app when there’s a million free ones out there? It all started with when the one person developer of Tweetie announced that Tweetie 2 will not be a free upgrade but a paid app. (yes, this is another post about how cheap people are!) Ensured the outcry from the cry babies! There was so much noise that makes me actually interested in what Tweetie 2 for iPhone has to offer. So I dig up the previews, the description from the official site, etc etc. I like what I saw, so much so that I paid for it when it come out!
So the basics are all there just like any other Twitter apps, but the unique features are not only advanced but the implementation and the presentation of it is just fun. First of all – full persistence, it’s a simple idea, but you’ll be surprise how few apps do this! Everything would stay where they were when you come back after a phone call or any other thing you do! @people picker and the ability to link Twitter contacts to your Address Book contacts! This feature really make Twitter as a proper communication tool! Draft manager to manage your draft, so now you can write as many tweet as possible and send it out whenever you want. Integration with other apps and services – TextExpander, Follow Cost, Tweet Blocker, Favstar.fm, Instapaper, etc. There’re so much stuff here that I don’t even know what some of them do! lol There’s even notification! Not for every tweet, certainly you can do that, but if u follow many people (celebrities), you’ll be insane to have it notify you every time there’s a tweet. You can set it individually so that let’s say all you care about is just one or few friends out of hundreds that you follow, you will now get notify from just those few. There’re too many features for me to talk about, so I am going to switch to their implementation!
Now the developer really put his thought into this app, you can just feel it. Something as simple as refresh your tweet, you pull down and then release to refresh! Or you swipe to the left of the tweet to reveal the options of what you want to do with that tweet. It just have some really nice use of animated effects! Or the Map view with the radar-like scan animation! The implementation and presentation is just cool and great looking! To be honest I still like the dark theme of Twitterrific, but Tweetie quickly win me over, especially the very OSX dock like dot that indicate new tweet! The developer indicate that more features will be coming including syncing with the desktop version. I was just so impressed by it that I was like, you know what, if you appreciate someone’s work, you show your appreciation by buying their work! It’s as simple as that!
