Magic Mouse

From the moment it was announced, I knew I have to get my hands on the Magic Mouse! Well, to be fair I would love to get my hands on every single hardware that was announced by Apple on that same day, especially the 27″ iMac! But for now, Magic Mouse is the easiest target!

It was available for people to play with in the Apple Store immediately but none of them actually have it in stock for you to buy until this week. Today I finally got one from the 5th Ave store. As you can see from the pictures, the packaging is adorable! Apple put as much thought into the packaging as the product they are selling. A simple form fitting transparent box that looks like a soap that you bought from the Bodyshop! Turn to the back u get the gesture instruction! Inside there’re the tiny manual & limited warranty. And when I said they really thought out the packaging I am not kidding! The tape that hold the two sides of the box, one of them has a none sticky tap with a little gray arrow telling you to open it from there!

Every single Apple products that require batteries have the batteries included in the box for you, so you can used the product as soon as you unwrap it.  The Magic Mouse is no different.  Just open the box, turn the button in the back to on and you are almost good to go.  As of this moment OSX 10.6.2 is not out yet, so your existing Mac need to download the Apple Wireless Mouse software from the Software Update menu.  Actually your mouse still operates before you download that update, but the the multitouch functions like scrolling and two fingers gesture would work until you download the software.

People might not like the low profile of the mouse, but I have no problem with it.  The feature works the best is scrolling with momentum! similar to flicking on your iPhone, it works fantastic on a long webpage or a huge PDF! (also works great on your giant music library on iTunes!)  You can do the 360 degree scrolling on a picture in iPhoto, just touch anywhere north of the Apple logo on your new mouse!

So far I am completely satisfied with my new pet mouse! maybe I should think of a nickname and also look for an awesome mouse pad for it to hang (not that it needs one because it can track on most surfaces – my desk is white! but only a really expensive handcrafted leather mouse pad would fit this mouse!)
