Moodagent

As I mentioned last time, the Genius feature finally improved to a point that I can use it regularly. It’s still not perfect, but at least it works not only for my English-language songs but also some Chinese-language songs as well. The Newest addition last year was Genius Mix, which was cool at first but quickly fall out of favor. The main complaint was that you can’t control it at all! not how many songs in the mix, not what is in the mix, or even how these mixes are generated! I pretty much unchecked Genius Mix and only use the regular Genius feature, but still it is lacking, you still don’t have too much control on how genius works.

This is how Moodagent comes in to play! I downloaded the free app and was immediately attracted by not only how easy it works but also how attractive it looks! There are five bars in the app that indicate sensual, tender, joy, aggression and tempo.  All you need to do is adjust the bars and you will get a playlist of 25 songs that fit those moods. The playlist generation is dynamic, so you can keep adjusting the bars, also you can delete individual tracks that you don’t like.  You can also choose one song as a seed and it will matches the moods of that song.  I have to say it works really well! of course nothing is perfect, but this system is much better than Genius not only from the results, but also the range of it.  I can tell you almost every song I throw at it, it will create a playlist that really matches (sans a song or two on the list that might be a bit odd.)

There are still some minor issues like how the music skips a second or two when you seed a song or when a new playlist is generated.  The issues are minor that it does not affect how the app works.  I have been loving this app and you should definitely give it a try!
