Alice in Wonderland
Finally saw Alice in Wonderland and I can say I genuinely love it. It’s Tim Burton’s interpretation of Alice in Wonderland, so it does not follows the traditional plot, rather it depicts a second visit to the Wonderland by Alice when she’s a young woman about to get married.
In a typical Burton fashion, everything looks amazingly weird and yet it all works extremely well here because Wonderland is suppose to be an over the top dream world! I love the plot of escaping to the dreamland to find yourself, your purpose. That’s what I do every day and every night. And of course modernism creeps into the plot too, the sense of feminism of determine one’s own future is all there to show.
Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter can just be anyone and can make it work so well. They are amazing! Even Anne Hathaway fits into this strange world nicely, which is a surprise because she’s not just the type to be in such a fantasy kind of environment. As for the voice talent, you just can’t go wrong with Alan Rickman and Stephen Fry, even that Little Britain guy Matt Lucas – which I do not like, is fine as the two fat boys. As for Alice herself, Mia Wasikowska did a fine job as the wild eyes but yet couragous Alice.
The line between the fantasy world and the real world is very thin. Most of the time you don’t even need to go throw a rabbit hole to enter your own Underland. I love this film because I can so identified with it with my well-known overly active imagination~
