iPhone Cases – a look back
I just got another iPhone case. Which is case # 3 since I got the iPhone 3GS last summer. Yes I know, it’s been 9 months and I already bought 3 cases. With the rate this is going, I will probably spend more on cases then the amount I spent on buying the phone itself! But everybody knows how picky I am, and iPhone cases are like clothes, after a while you are just gonna need to update your wardrobe! I am not going to go all the way back to the cases I used for my first iPhone since those are ancient history, so here are just the one I got for the 3GS:
1) Switcheasy – CapsuleNeo – White: It was a handsome case on paper, I got the white version to match my white iPhone. Unfortunately, the case does not hold up to daily usage at all. The case is a combination of a H shape hard case and a soft rubber case and a white thin membrane on the inside as well. The problem is that the rubber case part after some scratches the skin of it started to come off a bit. Being white doesn’t help either because after slipping into jeans or other darker cloth pockets, it got some colors on it! Within three months I was already hunting for my next case.
2) Incase – Metallic Slider – Magnesium: My second case is from Incase, which I owned their regular original Slider case for my first iPhone. I was satisfied with it back then so when I was looking for a replacement after CapsuleNeo, I immediately think of Incase. They have based from the original Slider case and branched out to many different materials and colors. I like their Metallic series because even though it is plastic, the texture really feels different and the metallic color was attractive and unique at the time. It actually held up pretty well as a case, because of its matted texture, you don’t have to worry about fingerprints and scratches – that is unless it is some really deep scratches, it is plastic after all. In its 5 months of usage, there was one scratch forceful enough that it left a mark.
3) Griffin – Elan Form + Chilewich – Light Grey: After 5 months of Metallic Slider, I got a bit tired of it, plus because the Apple Store carries a large quantity of them in their store, with an entire wall of them. I started to see it everywhere. I needed something new! I was at the Apple Store and was looking at Griffin’s Elan Form Graphite case. It was a similar top and bottom two pieces case, and the texture is very carbon fiber feel to it. However, I noticed some manufacture defects at the edge between the top and bottom pieces and that turns me off immediately. I noticed another case right next to it with the same Elan Form name but with “+Chilewich” on it. Upon reading the description, I found out that Sandy Chilewich is a top designer that is famous for using woven vinyl material. They collaborated and come up with this unique case. The texture and the pattern is amazing and there’s even a bit of shine on the woven vinyl material that catches your eyes as well. It feels great on your hand and the look is just elegant. And with the pattern you can barely see where the top and bottom pieces met. You know it’s top notch design when not only they are in stock in the Apple Store but at the MOMA store as well!
