Simply put, Ponyo is magical. There is no other word to describe it. Miyazaki’s newest film might not have the depth and meaning of his last few films like the environment or the terror of wars, but it has in place is a sense of innocence, just like his classic My Neighbor Totoro. Ponyo is inspired by the classic, Hans Christian Andersen’s the Little Mermaid. Of course, Ponyo is purely Miyazaki style unlike the Disney’s take to the classic tale.

I love movies with fantasy elements. Now when it’s done by a fame director, it’s obviously even better. Below are trailers for four movies by Terry Gilliam, Peter Jackson, Richard Kelly, Wes Anderson. I love all their previous films and I am extremely excited at these films! Then there are 3 other fantasy films that I found but I wasn’t familiar with the directors, nevertheless, they could be very good~
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus – Terry Gilliam, the one who bought you classics like Monthy Python, 12 …

A brand new trailer for the movie New York, I Love You is here! I have been waiting for this second in the Cities series after I watched the first film Paris, je t’aime! The new trailer has some longer scenes and a catchy Phoenix song, but I actually like the first trailer better, the scenes selection and the perfect music – Regina Spektor, Feist and Mika, all of my favorites made it super special. Anyway, no matter what, the film will finally hit theater this October! I can hardly …

After reviewing (500) Days of Summer, I realized the year is more than half way gone! So I started to think back about all the movies that I saw this year and here are the ones that I consider the best:

Upon hearing the news regarding Rachelle Lefevre, who plays the evil vampire Victoria in the Twilight series, is being replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard in the third movie, Eclipse. My first reaction is not to believe the official story of a “schedule conflict,” and indeed the next day there are already words of war throwing between the actress and the studio. My two cents is that this is not the first time Summit attempt to recast someone in their now blockbuster franchise!
Once upon a time when Twilight was this tiny …

Every once in a while there comes along a meaningful film that makes you think, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Garden State are such examples. Earlier in the summer there was Away We Go come close, but (500) Days of Summer is the film that I related to the most. (500) Days of Summer – if you can do the math, you know it’s not possible, so Summer here is not the season, but a character. Let me quote the narrator straight from the film: “It …

After a 2 years wait, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is finally here. It’s well worth the wait. First of all it’s so nice to be reunited with my favorite characters on the screen! Just seeing them put a smile on my face. Then the surprising direction to play up the light-hearted moments, the romantic and comedy aspects of the book really give the series a whole new feeling and even look as well. It’s actually a well-needed balance from the last movie and I …

I don’t have much expectation about the movie, cos from the first movie we know what we are getting into, a film that everything else sucks except the robots. And this time when the trailers started to show up a couple months ago, it didn’t even excite me! So when I go in the theater, I fully expect it sucks, and let’s say it’s even worst than I thought!
No matter how hard Shia LaBeouf tried, he’s still this annoying kid to me in every movie, this time around he got …

There is just something about Sandra Bullock that makes her so likable! She isn’t the prettiest compare to other Rom-Com actresses, but there is just a certain quirky quality to her that is just so adorable. She hasn’t done a Rom-Com for a while now, the previous one I can remember was Two Weeks Notice with Hugh Grant, and this time around he got match up with the really funny and yet hot as hell Ryan Reynolds, plus the added bonus of the national treasure Betty White, the …

Away We Go feels like Garden State on a road trip. It has the same trying to grow up, figuring out yourself, finding out where you belong emotional journey along with some very strange characters. Except this time instead of traveling within New Jersey, you are traveling across the entire North America with the couple Burt and Verona.
With an SNL alum who are used to all kind of outrageous characters as the lead, you would think Maya Rudolph would carries all the jokes in the movie. To …
