While Lost is coming to an end this weekend, there’s an exhibit that bring the artifacts from that mysterious island to this island – Manhattan! The exhibit is in the Vilcek Foundation in the Upper East Side.  Vilcek Foundation concentrates on the contributions of immigrants to the sciences, arts and culture in the United States.  Lost, aside from being an international television hit series, is also a result of collaborations of a diverse casts and crews of which many of them are immigrants or first-generation descendants of immigrants.  That’s why …

I always love the East River State Park in Williamsburg despite it’s barren appearance with absolutely nothing but a lawn and some stones.  I suppose the combination of the Manhattan skyline and waterfront is more than made up for the lack of anything else.  Last week I walked by and found out that there is a Sculpture Exhibition going on inside the park.  I was excited to see it.  To me they have no uniform theme or anything, but I find them to be a nice addition that actually blend …

Pillow Fight, a time-honoring tradition for every kid, got re-enacted in a massive scale for the grown-up in Union Square this past Saturday. I was there witnessing the event (until I can’t breathe because feathers start to choke me). It was the funniest thing I seen with hundreds of people with pillow gathering in the square and hitting each other! Many are really hitting people as if it’s a real war! some people are completely insane! and whenever people with some distinctive look, either dress in …

Another year, another opportunity to get in line and see some places in NY that you have never been before! This year I tried some not so popular sites to avoid the lines.  Unfortunately, this weekend a lot of things were going on in the city, from the Food & Wine Festival to the Breast Cancer Walk, and the worst of all – the mother of Subway repairs! 18 out of all 20 subway lines were in some kind of irregular schedules, be it skipping stops or replace by …

Today I went to the New Amsterdam Village at Bowling Green that was set up to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s arrival at what is now the New York Harbor.  There are tons of events setup to celebrate through out this NY400 Week, the New Amsterdam Village is one of them.  The village is consist of traditional Dutch canal houses, a windmill, a modern greenhouse.  It showcases Dutch crafts from wooden shoes to blue painting to glass blowing.  Not to mention Dutch flowers and traditional foods including cheese, …

The High Line at night takes on a completely different character. The carefully positioned lighting showed that this is no ordinary park, it’s more of an urban art work! I hope it will continue to thrive and develop because the City needs to keep adding unique urban characters to remind relevant. We can’t rely on the same old landmarks forever~…

I heard of MOMA’s P.S.1 Contemporary Center in Long Island City for the longest time, but never really went to check it out until now.  Maybe because I just dunno how to appreciate Art, but almost everything in PS1 are too “contemporary” for my taste! The whole time I was like, “What am I looking at? Why?” And for your information I don’t have that problem when I go to the Main MOMA in midtown, I enjoyed it there.
Each summer the courtyard of PS1 would have an eye-catching structure built …

My plans for today, Fourth of July was to either go to the Central Park Zoo to visit the snow leopard or head to P.S.1 contemporary center for their new exhibits.  Neither of the plans become a reality.  P.S.1 has the warmup concert going on today, so when I see the lines outside, I already said hell no!  Then on my way to the City, I realize my brand new low-rise jeans is hanging too low, it’s falling down every 2 mins and I didn’t wear a belt today (Because …

Today is the opening day for the Northern end of the Gantry Plaza State Park.  Since the weather was extremely pleasant with no rain and not too hot at all, I went to explore this new green space after work!
The original Gantry Plaza State Park was unique with its piers and the restored gantries, but the problem with it is it’s too small, too narrow with not enough green space, it was less of a park but more of a very nice looking waterfront.  This new Northern addition remedied the …

When I first saw the picture of Ernesto Neto’s anthropodino art installation, I thought it’s futuristic and beautiful.  But I didn’t have a chance to see it for myself until now.  Maybe it’s the end of the exhibit and then too many people have been tampering it, it just doesn’t look as good up close and personal!  The scale of this thing is still huge,, but maybe because the color was more subtle than I thought, it just mostly appeared as a giant white drip cloth than anything else.  Plus …
