Living in Greenpoint/Williamsburg area definitely change me. I am not talking about my clothes or my hair style – which my roommate already told me that I am turning into a hipster, fit right in with the neighbors~ I am talking about certain attitude toward things. I remember before I officially move in, A and I was checking out the apt, A was crazy and wanted to check around the waterfront abandon warehouse area, I was reluctant to follow but I did. I remember how crazy …

How does the people of this country still give high rating to this government on national security is beyond me! Cutting anti-terrorism money from the NUMBER ONE target city that is on every single terrorists’s list??? Seriously, what kind of decision is that? and they have the nerve to explain their decision in the most unbelievable reasoning I ever see.
“New York officials were given a one-page tally that explained, in part, how the region’s risk-based standing was calculated. The document said the region had no “national monuments or icons,” …

I found this fun read about the differences within Brooklyn. The article even titled it as Brooklyn Civil War: North vs. South. I think in a way that is very true, the style is very different. The mistrust between the two camps is even visible in terms of transportation! you can’t really go from Williamsburg directly to Park Slope with subway – you rather want to go to manhattan first then go to that other part of Brooklyn! (I know G technically can go from Willy to …

The biggest fire in New York in more than a decade (not counting 9/11) happens two blocks from where I live……yeah, that’s scary! It’s in this block of abandoned buildings by the East River not far from where my apt is. I saw the firetrucks this morning when i left for work, but I didn’t think it was a big deal since I didn’t look in the right direction to see the smoke, not to mention today is my early day that I left maybe an hour after the …

Everyone told me how advance the subway in Hong Kong is nowadays, now that I have a first hand account. I can say yeah it’s true, but honestly though, not a giant leap forward that i expected. The train of course is much cleaner, and the signs and directions are clearer and easy to understand, the commercials on the train just keep on coming at you from the digital board. I guess because I am used to ride the most advanced subway lines out of the NYC subway system – …

Is a neighborhood good or bad? How do you measure it? For me besides the usual, I rely on 3 counters, cutie count, gadget count, fashion count, and optional pet count~ It’s not really scientific, but I do believe it make sense~ Cutie count is obviously how many cuties are there in the neighborhood, I usually count it in the subway station, so for example the first 3 stops of L train would receive a full score on this counter!! the 4,5,6 train from midtown to downtown would also got …

I was reading this fascinating article on the City section of NYTimes titled “Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda.” It’s about some big urban plans in the past that never come to terms. It provides a perspective to the recent major plans that are either planning or building such as the Stadium on the Westside, 2nd Ave subway, freedom tower, etc. I got totally hooked on and wanna to read more, fortunately the article mentioned an author who wrote a book on the subject, Rebecca Read Shanor, so I immediately tried to look …
