Plants vs. Zombies on the iPhone is as familiar as the computer version, almost all the major elements are there with the exception of the Zen Garden, and that the mini games are now rolled into the main adventure. Other than that and some minor visual tweak to fit on the iPhone screen, it’s essentially the exact same addictive game. And for some reasons, touch-control is more intuitive than mouse-control, it actually enhanced the gameplay! I remember moving and clicking my mouse around to collect sunlight on …

Despite being such a geeky person, I am still very much on the outside of the comic book world. The comics that I buy and read regularly is only the two TV tie-in – Buffy and Angel. Yet I am fascinated by the digital comic scenes. The idea that you can just get whatever comics you like delivered to your devices is amazing. I know that’s the same as the ebook market and I have a different opinion to ebooks and regular books. I still …

Momento is a diary app on the iPhone. It is an app that makes me love my iPhone even more, and I didn’t think it is possible. One of the most gorgeous and elegant app out there. I can’t believe how pretty this is. There is a million note taking app out there, in fact the iPhone comes with one. It’s true that an app that has text input can serve the function of a diary because all you are doing is recording a memory …

I discovered another playlist generating app called Groove. Compare to Moodagent, while gave you more control when creating the playlist. Groove give you more choices instead but with little control. Groove get the music information from Last.fm and then generate a playlist that go well together. Well, that’s kind of standard right? and Moodagent can let you control what can be in the playlist and if you don’t like something you can delete the individual songs. The uniqueness of Groove is all the other choices …

As I mentioned last time, the Genius feature finally improved to a point that I can use it regularly. It’s still not perfect, but at least it works not only for my English-language songs but also some Chinese-language songs as well. The Newest addition last year was Genius Mix, which was cool at first but quickly fall out of favor. The main complaint was that you can’t control it at all! not how many songs in the mix, not what is in the mix, or even how …

Last time I talked about Twitter Apps, I used Tweetie on the desktop while Twitterrific 2 for the iPhone.  This week I switched to Tweetie 2 for the iPhone once it came out!  There’s no free version on the iPhone, unlike the desktop, so why would I want to pay 3 bucks for a Twitter app when there’s a million free ones out there?  It all started with when the one person developer of Tweetie announced that Tweetie 2 will not be a free upgrade but a paid app.  (yes, …

Tap Tap Revenge was one of the break out game for the iPhone platform.  I never cared about the original game that much, mostly because of the music choice.  But I respect the creator for bringing a well-crafted high quality game to iPhone for FREE.  Then comes TTR2 which has some more familiar songs once in a while for free but if you want some really well known songs to play with, you have to buy their separate app for Coldplay, Lady Gaga, etc.  I hate to clutter up my …

A few years back I was tagged to show my desktop, that was when I was still using my Powerbook G4 as my main computer.  It’s fun to show off the desktop because it also preserved a piece of your own computer history.  Anyway, lately I found this site called Minimal Mac and was extremely impressed by ways to simplify your desktop to look good, I followed some advice there and clean up my desktop a bit.  Now many on that site go to the extreme end to have absolutely …

When the App Store opened a year ago, apps were fairly easy to impress their audiences. I remember I was showing around the shake the roulette feature of UrbanSpoons because it was cool. Now more than a year later, an app need to be even more fun and appealing in not only the presentation but content as well. A recent discovery is an another restaurants app by the site UrbanDaddy called The Next Move. The presentation is top notch! Just like UrbanSpoons it also has a …

I have always envy people that are artistic and creative.  I always thought people that can play instruments, compose music, draw and paint paintings are amazing and wish that I have the same talent.  Unfortunately, I turn out to be no good at anything creative.  I can’t even draw something decent, let alone playing instrument or anything like that.  So when I heard of last week’s New Yorker magazine’s cover was painted entirely on the iPhone I was even more jealous.  I mean someone uses my favorite gadget to paint? …
