I was having a craving for sea urchin, the delicious uni.  So I search for high and low, for the best place to enjoy this delicatessen! From my research I found out that Soto in the Village has an unusual menu that is rich with uni – not only one dish, but five!  The chef there just love to use this ingredient, so I have no choice but to try it out, no matter how expensive it will be.  The result does not disappointed, I was pretty much in heaven! Not …

Every once in a blue moon, I somehow wanted to conduct a cooking experiment. Today is one of those days. The experiment is called meatballs with white sauce and vegetables with a side of rice! Ingredients as the name suggested are meatballs, vegetables, mushrooms, rice and Japanese cream sauce mix…

I love sea food, so when I heard about this cleverly named restaurant Flex Mussels, which as the name implied, specialize in mussels, I have to go and try it out.  Hidden on a residential block of UES.  Flex Mussels seems bigger on the inside because the storefront is deep.  Decorated with lots of ocean and sea theme paintings, the place has a comfortable feel about it without being too formal.
Now mussels no matter how you put it is not gonna photograph well, especially it’s in a pot.  But the …

One of the few complaints I have about my neighborhood and Williamsburg is that there’s very few authentic Japanese food here.  The only ones that I can think of are Bozu and Zenkichi, both in Williamsburg and are targeting the higher end customers.  I never thought the lack of choices situation will change much….until now.  I was walking around in my ‘hood and I found this place – Ichiran Ramen on Manhattan Ave and Green! It’s in the morning so obvious it’s not open, but I read this funny sign …

Today me and Scott went to see a CONFUSING movie named Synecdoche, New York. This post is not about the movie though, I am just gonna talk about it slightly then move on to my main drive to write this: my best dining experience! Anyway, so I generally is okay with mind-fuck movie like The Nines, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Memento, etc. But I can not make head or tails with Synecdoche, New York, the fame writer Charlie Kaufmann’s first time directing feature. It’s so confusing that I really can’t tell you what it is about – cos I really am not sure, all I can say is that it is…

Remember those Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans from Harry Potter? John bought me a box and I was trying all kind of nasty flavors this past few days! Here is the order of awfulness:

Rotten Egg
Earthworm
Black Pepper
Vomit

I haven’t found Earwax and Dirt and Booger yet, and…

Ever since I started my new job, my cheap Japanese lunch choice has been cut in half. My usual choices when I was working at 43rd and Madison were Oms/B, Zaiya and Zaiya in Kinokuniya. Occasionally Chiyoda and Yagura. Now that I work right on the same block as Oms/B by Lexington, it’s way too far to walk to Kinokuniya at 6th Ave. The regular Zaiya, Chiyoda and Yagura are doable even though they are all the way at 41st St and Madison, but during …

It’s very fortunate that I work in a location that is full with Japanese in the ‘hood. So not only there are abundant good affordable Japanese food for lunch, there are also 3 Japanese bookstores around. Not that I know how to read Japanese, nor have any intention of learning. (I can barely handle two languages! and I am lazy!) I could, in the best case scenario, guess about the meaning of 6 characters in a 50 words paragraph. But in any case, I love going to these Japanese bookstores. …
