I discovered another playlist generating app called Groove. Compare to Moodagent, while gave you more control when creating the playlist. Groove give you more choices instead but with little control. Groove get the music information from Last.fm and then generate a playlist that go well together. Well, that’s kind of standard right? and Moodagent can let you control what can be in the playlist and if you don’t like something you can delete the individual songs. The uniqueness of Groove is all the other choices …

As I mentioned last time, the Genius feature finally improved to a point that I can use it regularly. It’s still not perfect, but at least it works not only for my English-language songs but also some Chinese-language songs as well. The Newest addition last year was Genius Mix, which was cool at first but quickly fall out of favor. The main complaint was that you can’t control it at all! not how many songs in the mix, not what is in the mix, or even how …

Continue from the last post, here are the rest of my top 10 albums of 2009:
Waking Up – OneRepublic
OneRepublic has a somewhat distinctive sound among all the bands. There’s a rhythm in their music, , something that without listening to the voice track, you would know it’s their music. Their debut album has a single that was remix by Timberland that really bring that rhythm front and center, and that was, as we all know, their smash hit “Apologize”. This time around, they have another collaboration with Timberland, …

Continue from the last post, here are the next few of my top 10 albums of 2009:
It’s Not Me, It’s You – Lily Allen
I did not have a good impression of Lily Allen when she first hit it big three years ago. Some of her comments just made her looks like she’s a bit of a brat, almost too obnoxious. Therefore I didn’t even listen to her debut album despite all the good reviews. Three years later when her sophomore album came out, I finally give it a try and …

2009 has quite a few great albums, especially from the returning artists’ sophomore or follow up albums. I remember last year there were quite a few that I was excited to wait for the albums to come out but eventually got disappointed. This year though, I was excited at quite a few albums from the beginning of the year up until this month. Overall it’s a great year. My rule of thumb for great album is that it got to have more than 5 songs on the albums that I …

This week is truly a concert week, besides going to Regina’s concert the other day, Friday I went to Mika’s concert at United Palace Theater in Washington Heights. The venue is unique because it is one of those classical theater back in the golden days. The decorations are like nothing You have seen before, Seriously if the place is maintained a little bit better, the interior is pretty better looking than Radio City. Of course the major disadvantage is the location – 175th St uptown. I think most of the …

Yesterday I went to see Regina Spektor’s concert the third time this year, but unlike the previous two times, this is a real paid, full length concert at Radio City Music Hall. Before the concert, I did worry about if I will get tired of her shows after two times. But all worries faded away when she started to sing. She is as lovely as ever and with a much richer rundown given the added time compared to the free shows at Apple or B&N, there were definitely pleasant surprises.
I …

The new Genius function in iTunes 9 surprises me, but first, a little bit of history:
When the Genius Playlist function come out last year in iTunes 8, it was an alright feature for me. The selection from Genius at first wasn’t too good, but improved over time. But there’s always a problem I have with it is the lack of support of Chinese songs. Granted there’s no Chinese iTunes Music Store, so there’s technically no songs in the iTunes Store that has Chinese character, hence there shouldn’t be able to …

A month after Regina Spektor’s concert in Soho Apple, she’s here again this time at Barnes & Nobles in Union Square. Even though I just saw her and will see her again in October at Radio City Music Hall, I still went to Barnes & Nobles – it’s free! so why not? It turns out to be a very unique experience than a regular concert. The format is a series that B&N called “Upstairs at the Square: Writer & Artist Mixed” where a writer and an artist …
