I don’t have a giant HDTV, my computer isn’t attached to the TV, and I don’t have an AppleTV either, so why would I want to try out media centre softwares? one simple answer – my librarian tendency of organizing things! My current way of organizing media is once I acquired an episode of the TV Show, I re-encode it to an iTunes/Front Row accepted format, then copy and paste episode info, summary, and artwork from wikipedia into iTunes. A really long…

I came across another internet TV start-up Veoh. Think of it as a mix between YouTube and Joost. Now you might think it’s a ridiculous mix because YouTube and Joost are the exact opposite of each other in so many different ways! YouTube carries the most common foundations of Web 2.0 – user generated contents, folksonomy, a bottom up approach. While Joost licensed their content from the content providers, contents are grouped by Joost and it’s pretty much a top down approach despite a few social …

Safari on Windows open up an unexpected war on the difference between how Apple and Microsoft display font on screen. I heard lots of people were saying Safari’s font is blurry and they prefer the Microsoft way. This article explains clearly about the difference between the two companies – once again it come down to philosophy and culture of them. Apple chooses to preserve a font’s artistic integrity and style due to their ties with desktop publishing and graphic design, while Microsoft chooses readability on screen to …

I found this awesome free multi-platform program that can re-encode all kind of video format. It’s easy to install, easy to use, many formats to choose from, and Fast! Best of all is that it’s free! (actually it’s a shareware, fully functional unless u do DVD>DVD4GB or SVCD>DVD, in that case u need to donate $15) The name is called ffmpegX. I have about 100 of mpeg music videos on my computer in iTunes and they are mostly ranged in 40-50MB each, with ffmpegX, I could encode …

My friend was helping me to work out the visual kinks of the blog, and he sent me this screenshot of what my blog looks like when using Internet Explorer. Just like I am slowly switching my main usage of surfing the web from Safari to Flock, similarly I am switching from iChat to Adium X~ One thing that nothing can replace the function of iChat is its audio/video chat, but since I rarely use that at all, it doesn’t affect me much, and if I need to, i can always open it up again. But for now, Adium X is my default IM program, you gotta love that little ducky, making ducky noise everytime someone’s online, at …

After some usage of Flock, it’s time to criticize! It’s a very good browser, you can see all the goodies I described in my earlier post. It’s still in beta, so there will be a whole lot of improvement coming soon. So far, performance wise? page loading time is a bit behind Opera and even Camino. It is not a huge resource hog like Safari when you have a couple of tabs, but still, it’s pretty big and can get slow some times. Especially when in …

In the beginning, there were two browsers on my Desktop – Safari and IE for mac. IE of course get banished immediately. In its place – Firefox. My default main browser was Safari for the reasons of just being emotionally attached to Apple made software and its integration of .mac bookmark so that I can access it anywhere I want. There are still many pages that just won’t display right or simply don’t work in Safari, so Firefox is my backup for times like that. …

I have been using Firefox as my main browser for a long while…probably started when it was version 0.7 or so….now that it hits 1.0 preview, what can I say? I love it so much that I have to write about it!! I just can’t believe the majority of ppl still using IE even when millions of ppl get infected with all kind of virus and spyware through IE~ Firefox is safe and secure, block all the pop-up ads, i never seen one ever since I used Firefox~ of course …
