I always have bizarre dreams that are as long and detailed as movies, but lately they are more like a short scenes that are incomplete stories instead.  I wasn’t going to write them down, but many of them are so vivid that I remembered them for days or even weeks.  So why not write them down right? I am constantly fascinated and entertained by them. I mean I talk to many people and no one has bizarre sci-fi fantasy dreams as frequently as I do, I think there must be a purpose some how. …

Remember how I was complaining about Court Square Station? well, turns out it is true that the closing of staircases are all part of the plan to construct a direct transfer between the G and the 7 line.  According to the poster, there will be two escalators, a staircase and an elevator plus a street level connecting staircase all in the package as the final product.  Sure in the mean time it’s inconvenient, but given the benefit of the end result, all I can say is oh well~ My only question …

I take the G train up to Long Island City everyday to transfer to the 7 train to Grand Central. The transfer is an out-of-system metrocard transfer from the underground Court Square Station to the elevated 45th Rd – Court House Square Station above ground. It is not as convenient as other regular transfer where you never have to walk out the turnstile, but at least it isn’t too far away and it is still a transfer. From the look of things, this inconvenient and still acceptable …

For lack of a better word, NYC subway system as a whole is, crappy.  I am not going to be a broken record complaining about the same thing over and over again.  (cos don’t get me started, I was late this morning because the 7 decided not to go into Manhattan~)  Despite its many flaws, there are some marginal improvements that creep into the system every once in a while.  The model R160 trains, the train arrival time displays on the L line, even the behind-the-scene line managers position are some of the improvements.  Now …

It’s like a bizarre dream looking at this 1939 map of the planned expansion for New York City Subway. Look at how the 7 line go all the way passed Flushing and go to two directions: College Point/Whitestone and Bayside! Then look at how there’s another line crossed the East River to service Southside of Williamsburg or look at how there is a line go straight to Staten Island. What about the line go across Long Island City similar to today’s route of Grand Central then connect …

News has it that MTA will have a pilot program going where a manager will be responsible for a single subway line. The idea was to give each lines a greater degree of autonomy, introducing competition within the entire system, and get faster respond to problems that are localize within each lines. 7 and L will be the first to test this new management.
It does sound good on paper, and if they indeed backed up the new managers with money and manpower, who knows, maybe it might actually …

New Yorkers love to complain about the subway. I am no exception. During rush hour, MTA is hands down, the most cursed entity in New York, below and above ground. Older generations love to compare how much better today’s system than the 70s when the subway was in such a state of disrepair. Our generation, however, would only compare our system to the newer systems oversea such as the one in Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo, or old systems just like New York, except it was maintained …

Here is a fun map i found~ not sure if anyone saw it yet. It’s an animated map of the New York City subway showing the construction of the entire system. You’ll be surprise the earliest part of the current subway system isn’t built in Manhattan!! (well, those parts are not underground~ and back then it wasn’t part of the system at all~)

Both of my rides today on the L I was given a treat of new trains and iPhone~ Instead of the regular pretty new R143 car that the majority of L line is using, I was on the newest R160 car that was suppose to be replace the old train of the N and A line! I was so excited and looking at the new features. The most notable different between the R160 and the R143 is the LED map display. The R143 car already uses …
